The Hiding Place

This show’s costumes can be broken into three categories: Dutch civilians, concentration camp prisoners, and German soldiers.
Dutch Civilians
The clothes of the Ten Boom family and the Jewish refugees were pulled from our stock or thrifted. Each costume was intentionally chosen to be time period accurate and to fit well with the character’s personality.
German Soldiers
Six actors were cast as German soldiers, three of which were named. The soldiers all wore black outfits. As a designer, I elected to give the soldiers plain red arm bands instead of historically accurate Nazi armbands, as the message would come across the same but would be more respectful to those with close relations to the holocaust.
Concentration Camp Uniforms
The concentration camp uniforms were made in shop. We worked with our dramaturg to make sure the uniforms translated well and that the triangles were correct.
