Beauty and the Beast
Directed by: Kelsie Davis | Olivet Nazarene University | February 29-March 2, 2024
For this production we constructed a unit set along the back of the stage. Four sided rolling flats allowed us to change location and expand the set. Our library was created by hanging flats.

The Process

The structure of the set was initially built in our rehearsal space to allow the actors to practice on it.

The original design was larger due to incorrect measurements. When this was realized, work began on revising the design.

The finalized set was smaller and shallower, but was framed perfectly by the stage.

Maurice's cart was made by attaching luan and cardboard to a shopping cart.

All bricks were painted by hand in our scene shop.

Seeing a design realized is truly magical.

Actors playing around give great opportunities to capture set pieces under house lights.

A "Be Our Guest" sign was painted for photo opportunities.
